Crypto market adds over $100 billion despite Israel’s response attack

Image
The global cryptocurrency market experienced a notable price surge despite escalating tensions in the Middle East. On April 19, early morning, Israel launched a retaliatory strike against Iran, a move that has heightened geopolitical uncertainties.  The reported Israeli strike has the potential to escalate regional conflict, traditionally a factor that leads to market volatility with leveraged traders losing over $300 million in the initial hours following the news. NEW️ Almost $300m in leveraged positions liquidated this morning as a result of Israel's attack on Iran. Prices quickly bounced back as it became clear there was little damage. Manta Network recovers from cyber attacks as money laundering claims surface

Manta Network has successfully resumed normal operations after overcoming technical issues, as reports of money laundering involvement emerge. On Jan. 18, the Manta network experienced a DDoS attack that temporarily disrupted its operations. The attack , which began at 9:30 AM UTC, coincided with the network’s Token Generation Event (TGE). It’s noteworthy that the incident follows closely after the network reported an RPC (Remote Procedure Call) flood, raising the possibility that the earlier RPC flood could have been a precursor or part of the DDoS attack . The DDoS attack was both “aggressive” and “timed”, as reported by Kenny Li, co-founder of P0xeidon Labs, with Manta Network reporting over 135 million requests hitting their RPC nodes. Despite the attack, Manta Network assured its users that the blockchain itself remains secure, with block production and fund safety unaffected. However, the attack severely hampered communication between applications and the blockch...

Coinbase limits Zcash trading as ViaBTC poses risks of 51% attack

Coinbase changed the Zcash confirmation requirement to 110 blocks, increasing deposit time from 40 minutes to 2.5 hours. Crypto exchange Coinbase has limited trading with Zcash (ZEC) after it found that a single mining pool now controls more than 50% of Zcash’s hash power. In a blog post on Sept. 15, Coinbase said it increased the number of network confirmations required for processing deposits and moved our ZEC trading markets into a limit-only mode to reduce the impact of any volatility. Now, Coinbase waits for 110 blocks to be confirmed by the network, which means users would have to wait about 2.5 hours to deposit ZEC into the exchange. Block distribution in Zcash | Source: MiningPoolStats According to data from MiningPoolStats, ViaBTC is now controlling 53% of the Zcash hashing power, while unknown entities control 18.3% and AntPool — 12.2%. Coinbase says it has reached out to Electric Coin Company (ECC), the team behind Zcash, and ViaBTC to reduce the risks of an a...

DeFi protocols Exactly, Harbor hacked in separate attacks

A fresh round of attacks targeted the DeFi ecosystem on Aug. 18. The Exactly protocol was exploited for nearly $7.3 million, while the Harbor's team is still estimating the amount stolen. Decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols Exactly and Harbor were exploited on Aug. 18 in two separate — and apparently unrelated — attacks, according to blockchain security firms DeDotFi and PeckShield. On-chain data reveals 4323.6 Ether (ETH), worth nearly $7.3 million at the time of writing, had been stolen from Exactly Protocol. The hackers then bridged 1490 ETH using the Across Protocol, and 2,832.92 ETH to the Ethereum network via Optimism Bridge. Update: After a thorough review of the Exactly Protocol Hack, we have concluded that the total of stolen amount up to date is ~$7.2M (4323.6 $ETH) Eventually, they bridged ~1490 $ETH, using Across Protocol, and 2,832.92 $ETH to Ethereum via Optimism Bridge:… https://t.co/s61ai1OEMd — De.Fi ️ Web3 Antivirus (@DeDotFiSecurity) August 18, 2023 Exactl...
