European Union Pauses Retaliatory Tariff on US Goods for 90 Days
In response to US President Donald Trump’s pause of his Liberation Day tariff plan, the European Union (EU) has agreed to pause its retaliatory tariff on US goods for 90 days. Indeed, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed its alignment with a halt as it looks to negotiate a new trade deal with the United States. Trump announced sweeping global tariffs last week, issuing a baseline 10% import tax on all trade partners. Indeed, the plan was crafted to seek balanced trade but wreaked havoc on the US stock market. In response to the plan, the EU agreed to issue its own 25% tariff on the US. However, following Trump’s freeze, the collective has responded in kind.
