Trump and Starmer signed a UK tariff cut agreement on Monday at the G7 summit, creating a breakthrough in US-UK trade relations, and it’s also quite significant for both countries right now. This Starmer Trump agreement reduces British car tariffs from 25% down to 10% for the first 100,000 vehicles annually, and it also eliminates aerospace tariffs entirely. The G7 deal provides reduced import costs for key UK industries, though negotiators left steel discussions unresolved at the time of writing. European Union Pauses Retaliatory Tariff on US Goods for 90 Days

Image
In response to US President Donald Trump’s pause of his Liberation Day tariff plan, the European Union (EU) has agreed to pause its retaliatory tariff on US goods for 90 days. Indeed, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed its alignment with a halt as it looks to negotiate a new trade deal with the United States. Trump announced sweeping global tariffs last week, issuing a baseline 10% import tax on all trade partners. Indeed, the plan was crafted to seek balanced trade but wreaked havoc on the US stock market. In response to the plan, the EU agreed to issue its own 25% tariff on the US. However, following Trump’s freeze, the collective has responded in kind. Trump Poised To Axe IRS DeFi Broker Rule After Senate Passes Resolution, Sparking Crypto Community Celebrations

Image
A resolution to dismantle a controversial Biden-era DeFi broker rule is heading to President Donald Trump’s desk for the axe following Senate approval. The vote, which passed with a 70-28 majority, marks a significant step toward reducing Internal Revenues Service (IRS) oversight on decentralized platforms. The DeFi broker rule required decentralized finance platforms to report crypto sales and disclose transaction details, including user information. Proponents argued it would enhance transparency, but critics warned it could stifle innovation and impose burdensome compliance costs on Web3 platforms. Senate Approval To Kill DeFi Broker Rule Was Expected The DeFi broker rule required decentralized platforms to file their gross proceeds from crypto sales as well as include information of the users involved in each of the transactions. Critics of the DeFi broker rule claimed that it would hit decentralized platforms with too onerous rules and reporting requirements, and sub...

XRP wipes $11 billion just 48 hours after Ripple case dismissed

Image
President Donald Trump’s re-election and the news that the now-former Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler would resign helped XRP soar from about $0.51 to January highs near $3.31 for a 549% rally. Events in the subsequent months provided substantially fewer tailwinds, with even the SEC’s watershed decision to abandon its lawsuit against Ripple Labs triggering only a short-lived rally. In fact, though the immediate reaction to the news was positive and led to a 14.35% rally from March 18 lows near $2.23 to March 19 highs near $2.55, sending the token’s market capitalization to $149.18 billion, subsequent trading proved something of a bloodbath. Ripple founders lobbied for XRP reserve, got sell-only stockpile instead

Image
Ripple and its co-founders spent tens of millions of dollars on political donations with dreams of the US government acquiring XRP for a sovereign crypto reserve. Instead, at 7:11pm yesterday, they endured a catastrophic conclusion to their lobbying efforts.  When so-called “Crypto Czar” David Sacks tweeted the text of a signed executive order, Ripple and its XRP Army learned that Donald Trump would not — despite his explicit promise — direct the US government to buy XRP.  Although Trump claimed on March 2 that he would create a Crypto Strategic Reserve that includes XRP, he did not. Instead, he actually signed an order relegating XRP to a separate, sell-only stockpile. Rather than entering the ranks of any US Strategic Crypto Reserve, XRP is, disappointingly, a Stockpile Asset. The US government may not buy XRP and may only hold onto or sell it. Indeed, according to the document Trump signed, “ the United States Government shall not acquire addi...

TRUMP favored on Chinese crypto exchanges in early trading

China gave a curiously generous amount of support to US President Donald Trump’s largest crypto project, TRUMP. In the critical hours of its weekend debut, Chinese traders and Chinese-founded exchanges led trading activity in the memecoin. Around 9pm New York time on Saturday, January 18, Trump launched TRUMP on Solana’s blockchain via Moonshot, a fiat onramp and wallet provider. His website accepted both crypto and fiat denominations, including credit and debit cards. Debuting on non-custodial exchanges like Jupiter and Raydium, the token rallied from below $1 to over $75 overnight — imputing a $75 billion fully diluted valuation on its maximum supply of 1 billion tokens. Due to the prominence of what had quickly become the world’s second-largest memecoin — ranking by Sunday morning beneath only Dogecoin (DOGE) itself — centralized exchanges scrambled to list it. China led the charge. Chinese crypto exchanges lead TRUMP listings Although TRUM...

Donald Trump And Family Slammed For ‘’Greed’’ Over $TRUMP And $MELANIA Meme Coin Launches

Image
Incoming US President Donald Trump is facing a backlash over allegations of greed following the consecutive launches of the $TRUMP and $MELANIA meme coins over the weekend. “Launching a second meme coin so quickly after $TRUMP’s success reeks of greed,” said Jim Bianco, president of Bianco Research, in a post on X. “It’s clear the goal was to maximise profit rather than create value.” Both meme coins skyrocketed thousands of percent on launch and added billions to the wealth of the soon-to-be first family. Both tokens now rank among the top 10 meme coins, with TRUMP placed 3rd with a market capitalization of $10.68 billion and $MELANIA 7th with a market cap of $1.74 billion, according to CoinGecko. The hasty development of $MELANIA, with its launch coming a little more than a day after $TRUMP, prompted criticism over the lack of planning and foresight from the team. Trump backer and former Messari CEO Ryan Selkis said that the president-elect sh...

Ripple: Can Trump-Led Crypto Reserve Drive XRP to $4.50?

Image
In one of the most surprising announcements of this month, the incoming presidential administration has discussed the creation of a new crypto reserve focused on US-based assets. Indeed, it is a key part of the emerging shift to embrace the asset class. With Ripple (XRP) surging, the question needs to be asked: can a Donald Trump-led crypto reserve of that kind push the asset to $4.50? The last week has seen the token surge alongside a broader market rally. Moreover, with the US President-elect Trump set to be inaugurated next week, that ongoing surge doesn’t appear to be slowing any time soon. Although there are lofty ideas on the horizon, there could be massive implications if the incoming administration is able to make good on its reserve hopes. BRICS: Bitcoin Now Key US Dollar Hedge Amid Trump Embrace

Image
In what is certainly an interesting dilemma for the BRICS bloc and the asset class, Bitcoin has clearly evolved to become a key US dollar hedge amid the embrace of President-elect Donald Trump. Indeed, his alignment with cryptocurrencies has created a new kind of problem as he seeks to ensure the strength of the greenback on a global scale. Earlier this year, Trump issued a stark warning to the BRICS bloc specifically. The returning president threatened to issue 100% tariffs on imports for nations seeking to ditch the US dollar. However, he has also sought to embrace the country’s Bitcoin exposure while wanting to create a strategic BTC reserve. In the end, the asset could be key in lessening the international strength of US currency.
