UK Man Gets 20-Month Prison Sentence for Facebook Posts Deemed 'Hateful'

In what is a landmark decision, the UK has given a 20-month prison sentence to Jordan Parlour for Facebook posts that were deemed ‘hateful.’ Parlour is the first person to be sentenced for stirring up racial hatred on the social media platform. The sentence is in relation to the continued riots taking place throughout the country. Parlour was arrested for urging rioters to target a building in his home city of Leeds. The target of his posts was housing asylum seekers, resulting in the sentence Tuesday. Nigel Farage claimed shady crypto ATM owner is ‘like a son to me’

UK Reform Party leader Nigel Farage once described one of the party’s volunteers who is also a convicted fraudster and the alleged owner of an illegal crypto ATM, as being ‘like a son to me.’   According to the Byline Times, Farage made the comment about financier George Cottrell in 2020. Cottrell, also known as ‘Posh George,’ was caught in an FBI sting operation agreeing to launder £120,000 per month in drug funds. He allegedly threatened to report the fake drug traffickers to the police in an attempt to blackmail them out of 130 bitcoins, then worth $80,000.    Cottrell also faced allegations of owning an illegal crypto ATM machine at a private members club and casino in Montenegro. NHS exec warns that crypto trading could fuel problem gambling

An increasing number of young adults from the UK are undergoing Gambling addiction therapy after becoming hooked on trading crypto , the UK ’s National Health Service (NHS) has warned. UK police return £8M to victim of 445 bitcoin fraud

UK police have returned £8 million ($10 million) in bitcoin to a trader who was scammed six years ago, by a group that exploited a glitch in a crypto exchange to steal at least £22 million ($28 million) from users. On Saturday, the Lancashire Fraud and Cyber Crime unit reported it return ed the £8 million to the victim last week. Their funds were taken by a gang of Blackpool-based Crypto scammers that were sentenced earlier this year. The group reportedly stole untold millions from victims of the Australian crypto exchange CoinSpot in late 2017. Authorities say the gang used someone in Dubai to convert the stolen crypto into cash before the group laundered it through foreign online accounts. Sam Altman’s dystopian eyeball-scanning Crypto project Worldcoin may be about to be probed by data regulators in the UK , following its global launch on Monday. The Information Commissioner’s Office told Reuters on Tuesday: “We note the launch of Worldcoin in the UK and will be making further enquiries.” The UK office is responsible for upholding information rights and data privacy. IT guy jailed for ‘piggybacking’ $390k bitcoin blackmail plot

A UK -based security analyst who attempted to blackmail the bio lab where he worked out of £300,000 ($390,000) has been sentenced to almost four years in prison.  Twenty-seven-year-old Ashley Liles pleaded guilty in May to blackmail and the unauthorized modification of computer material following an attack on Hertfordshire-based gene therapy firm Oxford Biomedica in February 2018. Liles was part of the team charged with investigating the data breach. However, instead of trying to track down the real culprit, Liles attempted to turn the attack to his own advantage by switching the original blackmail email and changing the payment address.
